Products such as our Low Tech binding and the Dy.N.A. race boot have had a seminal influence on the ski touring market. But there is so much more to come. Inspired by the growing numbers of freeriding fans, this discipline of mountain sports is making inroads into the world of ski mountaineering: we call it freeride touring. In the development of our freeride touring ski, the STOKE, Dynafit has achieved an ingenious solution to the challenge of combining two contrary worlds: light weight and performance on the ascent versus smoothness and stability in deep snow and difficult terrain. The steeper the slope, the deeper the snow, the wider the skis.
But this simple equation didn’t work as well in the ski touring market. The contrast was too extreme, the requirements too contradictory. If you wanted to ascend a long steep slope, then you needed a lightweight and relatively narrow ski. If you wanted to descend through deep snow, you chose a wide and flexible ski. But there are those who want it both ways.
One of them is Canadian ski mountaineer Greg Hill. It‘s not for nothing that Greg has a hill in his name! He has completed innumerable challenging tours and holds the current world record for vertical meters of descent in ski touring: over the course of 23 hours and 20 minutes Greg descended 15,270 meters. He has drawn from his decades of experience in the world of ski touring to help Dynafit in the development of a unique product. The result is a ski which is the first in brand history to have over 100 mm measurement under foot. And despite its generous dimensions, it is an incredibly free-moving touring ski. The sToke combines a flexible early-rise shovel with a strong sidewall construction, facilitating the maximum amount of fun, especially across difficult terrain. The core is constructed from a paulownia-bamboo-beech composition, which forms the basis for the impressive low weight and remarkable stability on every turn. "Get stoked“ as you dive into deep, powder snow.
Thanks to a new model of ski that defines a new chapter in alpine sports: Freeride Touring. Such a ski will of course require a special boot. And what could be better suited than the Dynafit Titan? We designed this product with one aim in mind: to make the best all-round freeride touring boot in the world. The TiTAN combines light weight, stability, and capability for touring in a quality that has never been seen before. With its triple binding sole-system, the boot can easily be modified from a ski touring boot to a downhill alpine boot. The Alpine Overlap design provides better support on the descent, is easier to put on, and is very comfortable to wear when used for walking. The heel reinforcements increase torsional rigidity and side support without adding weight. And the inside of the Titan leaves no wish unfulfilled. The TF-X liner is the first inner boot that combines individual thermoformability with the durability, comfort, and reinforced tongue of a traditional alpine liner. Having the right skis and boots is crucial, but you must also be properly equipped for carrying all your gear. It‘s good then, that there is a high-performance backpack you can rely on. The MAnAslu 35 is a light-weight pack that combines all the characteristics required for challenging ski tours: both diagonal and sideways ski attachments that allow skis to be fastened in five seconds, the side-access compartments for skins, crampons, and safety devices. Not to mention a rope loop under the lid, a padded compartment for glasses and compatibility with all current hydration systems.
